For the place. For the people.
Canyon & Coast approaches each outdoor space as part of the home and its surroundings. The design starts from the property’s real conditions and the routines of the people who live there, then balances planting, movement, shade and care.
Let’s plan your garden
MAKE ROOM FOR A LITTLE MORE OUTSIDE.
Design for the conditions on the ground
Southern California sites vary widely. Coastal exposure, inland heat, shade from neighboring buildings, slope and drainage all affect what can thrive and where a path or sitting area will feel comfortable. We use those conditions as design inputs rather than treating a plant list as a universal recipe.
- Observe sun and shade across the useful parts of the yard
- Account for runoff, grade and access before setting routes
- Choose plants for the specific exposure and available care

Plan movement before adding detail
A garden should support the ordinary things you do outside. We consider the walk from the door, a place to sit, how furniture moves and which areas need to stay open. Those relationships give planting and materials a job to do, so the finished plan feels cohesive instead of crowded.
- Clear paths between entrances and outdoor activities
- Seating sized for the way the space will be used
- Planting edges that frame rather than obstruct

Choose a level of upkeep that fits
Low-water design still needs decisions about establishment, irrigation, seasonal growth and maintenance. We discuss the amount of care that feels realistic, then shape the planting and materials around it. Watering needs and local restrictions should be checked for the property and municipality.
- A practical conversation about ongoing garden care
- Irrigation intent coordinated with actual planting areas
- Durable details suited to use, exposure and upkeep
Good things

Bring the big idea. Or the small corner you keep thinking about.
